BIT Selection Procedure and Mode of admission

BIT Selection Procedure: Online Entrance Test on May 2010 at Allahabad, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Mumbai, Noida and Ranchi. Counselling in second week of June 2010. Provisional selections will be based on performance in the Test of candidates who have applied and fulfill the eligibility criteria, due consideration being given to choice(s) of Place for Study made in application form. All further notifications only on our website. No separate intimations will be sent to candidates.

Mode of admission: AIEEE

Eligibility: Candidates must hold a recognized Bachelor's degree (minimum 10+2+3), in any of following:
BCA
B.Sc in Comp Sc / Inf Tech / Electronics
B.Sc / B.A with Maths / Stats at graduate level.

Candidates of B.Sc / B.A Honours must have minimum 60% (50% for SC / ST) marks in average in Honours subject. Other candidates must have minimum 60% (50% for SC / ST) marks in average in graduation, computed as average of marks in ALL subjects in which appeared (excluding optional subjects).

Candidates must have passed in ALL subjects in which appeared in Class 10 (excluding optional subjects) with minimum 60% (50% for SC / ST) marks in average, computed as average of marks in ALL subjects in which appeared (excluding optional subjects). Candidates must have passed in ALL subjects in which appeared in Class 12 (excluding optional subjects) with minimum 60% (50% for SC / ST) marks in average, computed as average of best 5 subjects in which appeared (excluding optional subjects).

Candidates graduating in 2010 can apply, provided they can submit marksheets by 31 October 2010. Candidates with qualifications acquired through correspondence or distance-learning programs are eligible only if they acquired such qualifications as working professionals / while in employment.

All India Engineering Entrance Examination - AIEEE 2010

The eighth AIEEE Exam All India Engineering Entrance Examination for admissions in B.E./B.Tech. and B.Arch.VB. Planning in various national level institutes like NITs, I NTs, Deemed Universities and government funded institutions and States like Haryana and Uttaranchal will be held on 26lh April, 2010 all over India and abroad. This examination will be held in two parts viz B.EV B.Tech from 9,30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. and for B.Arch.VBr Planning from 1400 hrs to 1700 hrs. The sale of application form from the identified branches of Syndicate Banks all over India, identified institutions and Regional Offices of CBSE will be started from 51h December, 2008 to 5th January, 2010. The last date for submission of application form in the Board office is 10th January, 2010 till 5.00 p.m. For more information, please visit CBSE website as www.aieee.nic.in.

Eligibility criteria for AIEEE 2010:

The candidate must pass in the class 12th board examination or any other equivalent examination.
If a candidate is appearing for B.E/B.Tech examination then he has physics and mathematics as the compulsory subjects and any one from Chemistry, Bio-Technology, Computer Science, and Biology.
If the candidate is appearing for B. Arch / B.Planning then Mathematics with 50% marks in aggregate at10+2 level is the compulsion.

Important dates for aieee 2010 :

Apr 2010- examination day. Exam starts at 9:30am
May 2010 availability of examination forms, prospectus and online submission of applications.
Dec 2009- last day for requesting application form by post.
Jan 2010- last day to submit application forms.
June 2010- result declared on this date or before this date.

NOTE: the dates mentioned above are only proposed and as soon as the dates are officially declared by AIEEE, this post will be updated.

The AIEEE offered 9,000 seats in 117 institutions, namely 18 National Institutes of Technology, 15 Deemed Universities and 79 other technical institutions, including 3 other govt. funded institutions and 2 state Universities through this examination. All State level institutions in Himachal Pradesh, Uttaranchal and Chandigarh UT admitted all their students on the basis of AIEEE. In the States of Haryana and Rajasthan, open seats in State level institutions were filled up through AIEEE. A centralized counselling is organized for filling up the All India seats.This year many other institutions are expected to admit students through AIEEE.

New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) today announced the results of the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE), conducted on April 26, 2009 at 1460 centres in 85 cities across India.

AIEEE is conducted by CBSE for admission to degree-level courses in Engineering and Architecture courses in the National Institute of Technologies (NITs), Indian Institute of Information Technologies (IIITs), Centrally Funded Institutes, Deemed Universities and Institutions in States /UTs other than those covered by the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE).

Bangalore:
With butterflies in their stomachs, about 10 lakh students across the country are gearing up to enter the 20 elite National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and other premier government engineering colleges in the country.

They will appear for the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) on Sunday. Of the 20,000 candidates from Karnataka, 10,000 will take the test at 18 examination centres in Bangalore.

The gruelling test will be for the 18,000-odd engineering seats that include 9,300 in the 20 NITs. As many as eight lakh candidates appeared for the entrance examination in 2008.

Conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the AIEEE is the common admission test for all government engineering institutes for 32 engineering and four Architecture and Town Planning courses at the NITs.

Examination

The examination has two segments for BE, B Tech, B Arch and B Planning. The first paper comprises three parts on physics, chemistry and mathematics of equal weightage with objective type questions for BE and B Tech courses. The second paper covers mathematics, aptitude test and drawing for B Architecture and B Planning.
The aptitude test in the second paper has been designed to evaluate the candidate’s perception, imagination, observation, creativity and architectural awareness.

The examination features objective type questions with multiple-choice answer options having a single correct answer. For each incorrect response, one-fourth of the total marks allotted to the question would be deducted. There will be no deduction of marks for unanswered questions, from the total score.

However, more than one answer indicated against a question will be deemed as incorrect and will be negatively marked.

Students may avoid answering questions which they are not sure of.

Special sheets

All objective type questions are required to be answered on specially designed machine gradable answer sheets. Answers are to be marked using only black or blue-inked ball point pens. The AIEEE Paper I examination for BE and B Tech will begin at 9.30 am while Paper II for B Arch and B Planning will begin at 2 pm on Sunday.

The Supreme Court permitted CBSE to implement its revised two stage All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) scheme for filling up 15 per cent seats from all India quota in admission to MBBS and Dental courses from the academic year 2009-2010.

The apex court granted the permission when counsel for CBSE pleaded that the single stage AIPMT scheme, which was in vogue till 2004, has to be changed to two stage revised scheme comprising of preliminary objective test and final subjective test as it will save the financial burden on CBSE as lesser manpower will be required for conducting the entrance test.

AIPMT is a national level college entrance examination for admission to 15% of the total seats for Medical/Dental Courses in all Medical/Dental colleges run by the Union of India, State Governments, Municipal or other local authorities in India except in the States of Andhra Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir.

CBSE conducts such an entrance examination for engineering colleges in India too and it is called as All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE).

Availability of AIPMT-2009 forms:
Online AIPMT-2009 application forms: 22.10.08 (10.00 A.M.) to 01.12.08 (5.00 P.M.).

Offline AIPMT-2009 application forms (from Canara Banks/CBSE Regional offices): 22.10.08 to 01.12.08.

Exam date of AIPMT-2009:

Result of AIPMT-2009:
When is the AIPMT result declared? AIPMT preliminary result is announced generally in the second week of April. AIPMT-2008 preliminary result was announced on 13th April, 2008, while AIPMT-2007 preliminary result was announced on 16th April,2007. On the other hand, AIPMT Final result is announced generally in the first week of June. AIPMT-2008 Final result was announced on 1st June, 2008. Eligibilities for appearing in the CBSE Medical Entrance (AIPMT) exam:
i) You must be an Indian national.
ii) Academic eligibility (Minimum percentage) for AIPMT:
50% for General category student & 40% for SC/ST/OBC category student in Physics, Chemistry Biology taken together (i.e. aggregate). Also students should pass Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English subjects individually.
iii) Age eligibility (Minimum percentage) for AIPMT:
Minimum 17 years at the time of admission or on 31st December of the year of admission. Maximum 25 years as on 31st December of the year of the entrance examination. Upper age limit relaxed by 5 years for SC/ST/OBC students.
iv) You can attempt AIPMT for a maximum number of 3 (three) attempts.
v) Final year Class-XII students (who are appearing Class-XII final in 2009) can also
appear in the exam provided he meets all other eligibilities as given above.

If you meet above eligibilities, you should go ahead for applying for AIPMT exam.

How to apply online for CBSE AIPMT-2009:
At first you should know that you have to enter the details of payment of CBSE AIPMT application fee (Rs.600/- for General & OBC Category Candidates and Rs.400/- for SC/ST Category Candidate) while applying online. This application fee can be made in two ways:
1.0 Through Demand Draft (make the DD in favour of “Secretary CBSE Delhi”, payable at “Delhi”).
2.0 Through Credit Card (Use VISA/MasterCard only)
So you should have either the DD or the Credit Card in hand while applying online for the CBSE AIPMT exam.

If you have either of these ready, than
Step-1: Click here to apply online to AIPMT website. Fill the application form and note down the registration number which would be generated by system that is required for making the payment of fee.

Step-2:
If you are paying the fee through Demand Draft:
Fill the details of Demand Draft.

If you are paying the fee through Credit Card:
Make the payment through Credit Card and note down the payment receipt number, after successful payment of fee.

Step-3:
Take a printout of Confirmation Page and complete the same as per the instruction given in this Instruction sheet.

After submitting the CBSE AIPMT forms online you need to send the printed copy of the Online Application along with the enclosures (as given in this Instruction sheet) to “The Deputy Secretary (AIPMT), Central Board of Secondary Education, Shiksha Kendra, 2,Community Centre, Preet Vihar, Delhi-110 301” by Speed Post/Registered Post only (do not send it by courier!). Same should reach above office within 04.12.2008.

After sending the printed copy of online CBSE AIPMT forms to CBSE, Delhi office, the AIPMT Admit Card would be sent to you by CBSE through post. In case if you do not receive the Admit card by 19th March 2009, contact the Deputy Secretary (AIPMT), Central Board of Secondary Education, Shiksha Kendra, 2 Community Centre, Preet Vihar, Delhi-110 301 along with the following documents between 20-03-2009 to 30-03-2009:
a) Photocopy of the computer generated filled in Application Form.
b) Original receipt issued by the Post Office for having despatched the Application Form.
c) Photocopy of the Demand Draft or the copy of Credit Card transaction details as proof for remittance of fee.

This year AIEEE 2008 exam was held on 27th April, 2008.

Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics

There were 35 questions in each subject. So total of 105 questions were asked. Each question carries 3 marks. So score would be given out of 315 marks.

Last year in AIEEE 2007, there were 40 questions in each subject. Each question carried 3 marks. So score was given out of 360 marks.

Exams are little difficult this year due to Assertion and Reasoning type of questions introduced for the first time in AIEEE exams. Certainly it is difficult to score in AR type of questions.

But overall degree of difficulty would more or less be same as compared to last year. This is because students were expected to solve 105 questions as compared to 120 questions in AIEEE 2007.

So, overall performance level will remain same this year.

As from 2009 onwards, The chances of appearing in the AIEEE (All-India Engineering Entrance Examination) have been reduced to three.

At present, the students can appear for the examination for any number of times. The new decision will be applicable for the students appearing from the year 2009 onwards.

The decision was taken in a recent meeting of senior officials of the CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education). The board is conducting the examination.

The AIEEE is a competitive exam that is taken by students after Class XII for securing a seat in engineering colleges. According to the sources, the decision has been taken to improve the quality of education.

The Delhi College of Engineering (DCE) is one of the oldest technical institutions in India. Established in 1940 as the Delhi Polytechnic, it has been affiliated to the University of Delhi since 1952. DCE offers bachelor of engineering programmes in computer engineering, electronics and communication engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, production and industrial engineering, civil engineering, environmental engineering, polymer science and chemical technology, information technology and biotechnology. It also awards MTech and PhD degrees in engineering branches.

Eligibility

A candidate should have passed Plus Two, securing at least 60 per cent marks in aggregate in physics, chemistry and mathematics and with English as a subject (core or elective).

Candidates who hold a BSc degree (with physics, chemistry and mathematics), either general or with honours, can also apply. Applicants must be at least 17 years of age on or before October 1 of the year of admission. Relaxation in age up to one year only, with the approval of the vice-chancellor, is permissible.

Entrance exam

The admissions to bachelor of engineering courses in the Delhi College of Engineering are made on the basis of a student’s performance in the Common Entrance Examination (CEE) that is held by the University of Delhi in the month of May. Eighty-five per cent seats in DCE are reserved for candidates from the Delhi region. Admission to the remaining 15 per cent seats is on the basis of all-India merit rank in the All-India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) conducted by the CBSE. Examination centres are located in the National Capital Territory of Delhi.

Pattern of exam

The Combined Entrance Examination (CEE) is an objective-type test and has questions from physics, chemistry and mathematics. The question paper is not divided into sections on the basis of subjects and the questions are based on the CBSE syllabus for Class XI and Class XII.

How to prepare

There are many engineering guides available in the market. Practise answering multiple-choice questions from them within a set time-frame for speed and accuracy. You need to have your concepts clear. Since the syllabus is the same, concentrate on clarifying your concepts when you prepare for your board examinations.

Apart from your prescribed text books, you could prepare for the physics questions from books by H.C. Verma, IIT Physics by Tata McGraw Hill and Instructional Physics by MTG publishers. To crack the chemistry questions, go through books by O.P. Agarwal, Ratan and Krishna. Brush up your mathematics from the Khanna guide and Maths by R.D. Sharma.

CHENNAI: The discussion session of the model All India Engineering Entrance Examination, organised jointly by the The Hindu Education Plus and AIMS Education, will be held on Saturday.

It will be held at Devanga Higher Secondary School, Coimbatore, and at respective examination centres in Erode, Madurai, Salem, Tirunelveli, Tiruchi, Vellore and Puducherry.

The All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) is organized by the CBSE in India for admission to various under-graduate courses in engineering and architecture. Admission to the prestigious National Institutes of Technology is through this test.

Students opting for B.Tech or B.E. are tested in physics, mathematics and chemistry. The test duration is 3 hours. The maximum marks was 360, with equal weightage of 120 for each of the three subjects in 2007 (While Maximum marks was 540 in 2006). Students opting for B.Arch are tested in mathematics and an aptitude test. It is usually held at the end of April and results are announced at the end of May. What is AIEEE?

AIEEE is a engineering entrance examination and the students willing to make it to the top notch engineering colleges in indianite is an All India Common Entrance Examination for Admission to undergraduate degree Programs in the field of Engineering, Technology, Pharmacy and Architecture in various colleges in India. The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India had taken a policy decision to conduct an All India Engineering Entrance Examination in 2002 (AIEEE-2002) with a view to minimize the difficulties being experienced by the candidates and their guardians arising due to a large number of entrance examinations being conducted for admission to undergraduate degree programme in the areas referred above. AIEEETop Rankers are called for counseling for admission to 19 National Institute of Technology (NIT's). All candidates are eligible either for central counseling or state-specific or category-specific counseling on basis of their All India Ranking (AIR). Counseling for SC/ST candidates and SC/ST physically handicapped candidates is done on the first two days of counseling. Then the physically handicapped in the Open (OP) category are counseled. Candidates are ranked on an All India basis and also according to their state. Thus, they have an All India Rank (AIR) and a state rank. A central analysis structure is offered for filling up the accessible seats all over India. For the convenience of candidates, provision for on-line submission of Application Form has also been made.

Who is Eligible to appear for AIEEE?

In 2006, the minimum academic qualification for admission through AIEEE was a pass in the final examination of 10+2 (Class XII), or its equivalent, referred to as the qualifying examination. Those appearing in 10+2 (Class XII) final, or equivalent, examination with results not declared could also appear in counseling. Such candidates were admitted provisionally, subject to the submission of proof of passing in qualifying examination latest by September 15, 2006 at the allotted institution. In case they could not comply with this deadline for providing the proof of passing in the qualifying examination, their admission will stand cancelled.

AIEEE Test Pattern

Students opting for B.Tech are tested in physics, mathematics and chemistry. The test duration is 3 hours with maximum marks 540, with equal weight age of 180 for each of the three subjects. Students opting for B.Arch are tested in mathematics and an aptitude test. Most of the questions are based on fundamentals & their applications. So, the first step is to establish a solid base by mastering the fundamentals. For mastering the fundamentals you have to be focused.

Details :

Programme of Action (PoA), 1992 under the National Policy on Education (NPE), 1986 envisaged conduct of a common entrance examination on all India basis for admission to professional and technical programmes in the country. For admission to Engineering and Architecture/Planning programmes, Government of India vide Resolution dated 18th October 2001 has laid down a Three – Exam Scheme (JEE and AIEEE at the National Level and the State Level Engineering Entrance Examinations (SLEEE) for State Level Institutions – with an option to join AIEEE). This takes care of varying admission standards in these programmes and helps in maintenance of professional standards. This also solves problems of overlaps and reduces physical, mental and financial burden on students and their parents due to multiplicity of entrance examinations.

The fourth All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) was held on 8th May 2005. 3,97,178 candidates appeared, out of 4,36,048 candidates registered, for the examination at 763 centres located in 87 cities. Approximately, 9897 seats in 33 institutions, namely 18 National Institutes of Technology, 09 Deemed Universities and 03 other Technical Institutions, 3 other Govt. funded Institutions were offered through this examination A centralized counselling had been organized for filling up the All India seats.

Keeping in view greater variety of subjects offered by different School Boards at the 10+2 (Class – XII) level, more subject combinations in qualifying examination (10+2) would now be possible. For the convenience of candidates, provision for on-line submission of Application Form has also been made.

This year many other institutions are expected to admit students through AIEEE. A tentative list of institutions and States/UTs likely to admit students on the basis of AIEEE-2007 is given in Appendix-I. Final list of institutions admitting students through AIEEE-2007 would be contained in the Information Brochure for Counselling and released on AIEEE website in due course. Result: All India Engineering / Architecture Entrance Examination (AIEEE - 2007)

In compliance of the directive of the Govt. of India, Deptt. of Secondary and Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, the CBSE will conducting the Sixth All India Engineering/Architecture Entrance Examination (AIEEE) for admission to degree level courses in Engineering and Architecture in National Institutes of Technology, Indian Institutes of Information Technology, Deemed Universities and Institutions in the Centre/ States/ UTs other than those covered by Joint Entrance Examination/State Level Entrance Examination for paid or unpaid seats based on the score. Tentative list of participating institutions will be contained in the Information Bulletin for AIEEE 2007.

AIEEE 2007 Examination Pattern: Entrance examination would consist of two papers i.e. 1st paper consisting of three parts of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics of equal weightage with objective type questions for BE/B.Tech courses and 2nd paper – consisting of Mathematics and Aptitude Test for B. Architecture and B. Planning. The Aptitude Test is designed to evaluate candidate’s perception, imagination, observation, creativity and architectural awareness.

Scoring and Negative Marking of AIEEE 2007: There will be objective type questions with four options having single correct answer. For each incorrect response one third of the total marks allotted to the question would be deducted. No deduction from the total score will, however, be made if no response is indicated for an item in the answer sheet. The candidates are advised not to attempt such item in the answer sheet if they are not sure of the correct response. More than one answer indicated against a question will be deemed as incorrect response and will be negatively marked. All objective type questions are required to be answered on specially designed machine gradable answer sheets. Answers are to be marked using ball point pen (black/blue) only.

Examination Centres: List of cities where the examination will be conducted is given in Appendix VI. Candidates are required to give three options convenient to them. While every effort will be made to allot a Centre in one of the places opted by the candidate, the Board reserves its discretion to allot a Centre other than that of candidate’s choice any where in India. Under no circumstances, the Centre once allotted shall be changed by the Board.

Candidates must keep a photocopy of the Application Form for use as reference for future correspondence.

Online submission of application with photograph and signature on Computer Printed Form generated and down loaded from the website www.aieee.nic.in and to be sent by Registered/Speed Post (NOT BY COURIER) to CBSE and payment made by Demand Draft in favour of the Secretary, CBSE, payable at Delhi.

Candidates submitting applications online are required: to mention his/her Registration No., Name and Address on the back of the Pay Order/Demand Draft to retain a photocopy of computer printed Form to serve as reference for future correspondence, and to retain a photo copy of the Bank Draft sent.

Information regarding receipt of applications in the AIEEE Unit of the CBSE will be put on the website www.aieee.nic.in. The candidates can check the receipt of their Application Number on the website after 45 days of dispatch of Application to the CBSE. Candidates whose particulars do not appear on the website may write to the AIEEE Unit, and forward a photocopy of the Application Form, the Demand Draft and two passport size photographs (as pasted on the Application Form).

Procedure for Conduct of Examination and Use of Answer Sheet: Procedure for conduct of examination and instructions for use of the Test Booklet and Answer Sheet are given in Appendix VII. Candidates are advised to go through carefully before going for the Examination.

Evaluation and Declaration of Results: On the basis of performance in AIEEE, separate rank lists will be prepared for BE/ BTech and BArch/ BPlanning. Score Card indicating All India Rank with total marks and marks in each subject shall be sent to all candidates appearing in AIEEE.

Candidates scoring above a certain cut off percentage of marks (being different for General and SC/ST/PH category candidates) to be called for counselling shall be determined at the time of declaration of AIEEE results. Cut off percentage of marks for OBC shall be determined as and when govenment orders are issued for the same.All India Rank and marks shall also be released on AIEEE website. The results of AIEEE 2007 are likely to be declared on or before 31st May, 2007.

The score card will be dispatched to the candidates from 11.06.2007 to 25.06.2007. In case of non-receipt of the score card within the stipulated period candidate may apply for duplicate score card on payment of Rs. 50/- (plus postal charges of Rs. 30/- for outstation candidates) in the form of Demand Draft in favour of Secretary, CBSE, payable at Delhi between 03.07.2007 to 31.08.2007. No request for issue of duplicate score card will be entertained thereafter.

As per the notified cut off score and the candidates declared eligible up to the notified Rank shall be called to appear for counselling.

In case of two or more candidates obtaining equal marks, inter-se merit of such candidates shall be determined as follows:

BE/ BTech - By marks obtained in Mathematics and then in Physics in the AIEEE and then by age (preference to older candidates).

BArch/ BPlanning - By marks obtained in Aptitude Test and then in Mathematics in the AIEEE and then by age (preference to older candidates).

Counselling, Seat Allocation, Document Verification and Admissions: Final list of institutions admitting students (with intake in each discipline and category as per reservation) through AIEEE-2007, including counselling procedure, counselling schedule and counselling centres would be contained in the Information Brochure for Counselling and it shall also be released on AIEEE website in May 2007.

How To Apply:
1. Candidates can apply for AIEEE 2007 either on the prescribed Application Form or make application ‘Online’.

2. For submission of application on prescribed form: Information Bulletin containing Application Form can be had by post from the CBSE or personally from Regional Offices of CBSE, Designated Institutions and the Designated Branches of Syndicate Bank and other Banks specified in Appendix IV.

Candidates must keep a photocopy of the Application Form for use as reference for future correspondence.

Online submission of application with photograph and signature on Computer Printed Form generated and down loaded from the website www.aieee.nic.in and to be sent by Registered/Speed Post (NOT BY COURIER) to CBSE and payment made by Demand Draft in favour of the Secretary, CBSE, payable at Delhi.

Candidates submitting applications online are required: to mention his/her Registration No., Name and Address on the back of the Pay Order/Demand Draft to retain a photocopy of computer printed Form to serve as reference for future correspondence, and to retain a photo copy of the Bank Draft sent.

Information regarding receipt of applications in the AIEEE Unit of the CBSE will be put on the website www.aieee.nic.in. The candidates can check the receipt of their Application Number on the website after 45 days of dispatch of Application to the CBSE. Candidates whose particulars do not appear on the website may write to the AIEEE Unit, and forward a photocopy of the Application Form, the Demand Draft and two passport size photographs (as pasted on the Application Form).

Procedure for Conduct of Examination and Use of Answer Sheet: Procedure for conduct of examination and instructions for use of the Test Booklet and Answer Sheet are given in Appendix VII. Candidates are advised to go through carefully before going for the Examination.

Evaluation and Declaration of Results: On the basis of performance in AIEEE, separate rank lists will be prepared for BE/ BTech and BArch/ BPlanning. Score Card indicating All India Rank with total marks and marks in each subject shall be sent to all candidates appearing in AIEEE.

Candidates scoring above a certain cut off percentage of marks (being different for General and SC/ST/PH category candidates) to be called for counselling shall be determined at the time of declaration of AIEEE results. Cut off percentage of marks for OBC shall be determined as and when govenment orders are issued for the same.All India Rank and marks shall also be released on AIEEE website. The results of AIEEE 2007 are likely to be declared on or before 31st May, 2007.

The score card will be dispatched to the candidates from 11.06.2007 to 25.06.2007. In case of non-receipt of the score card within the stipulated period candidate may apply for duplicate score card on payment of Rs. 50/- (plus postal charges of Rs. 30/- for outstation candidates) in the form of Demand Draft in favour of Secretary, CBSE, payable at Delhi between 03.07.2007 to 31.08.2007. No request for issue of duplicate score card will be entertained thereafter.

Market forces have prompted the Marxist government in Bengal to introduce English as the medium of instruction in five state-aided schools in and around Calcutta.

The school education department on Wednesday decided to open English-medium sections in Hindu School, Bethune School, Ballygunge Government School, BD Government School and Barasat Government School, following a meeting with the headmasters of these institutions.

The English-medium sections will be operational from the 2008-09 academic year.

“Many students and guardians have expressed their preference for English as the medium of instruction in Higher Secondary courses. The government has no problem in allowing the schools to run English-medium sections provided they have the required infrastructure,” Dibyen Mukherjee, the director (school education), told Metro after the meeting.

There are 44 government-run and government-sponsored schools in the state, of which 25 are in Calcutta and its adjoining areas.

Though the schools have “proper academic infrastructure and maintain high academic standards”, they have not been drawing the best brains over the past few years.

“It is a fact that some students are shying away from enrolling in our institution, as the medium of instruction we follow is Bengali,” said Tapan Shee, the headmaster of Barasat Government School, on the northern fringes of the city.

“Almost every student now wants to study the Higher Secondary courses in English. Their demand is legitimate as studying the plus-two courses in English will help them score better in the all-India competitive examinations like the IIT-JEE, AIEEE and other engineering and medical entrance tests,” explained Shee, who attended Wednesday’s meeting.

The demand from the student community prompted several schools to approach the government with a proposal to run English-medium units along with the Bengali-medium ones.

Sources in the education department said some other state-run institutions — including Sakhawat Memorial, Hare School, Sanskrit Collegiate School and Taki Government School — have sought permission to open English- medium units.

“We will examine the proposals and allow as many schools as possible to start the courses in English-medium from the 2008-09 academic session,” said Mukherjee.

AIEEE 2008 exam date declared

New Delhi: The seventh All India Engineering / Architecture Entrance Examination (AIEEE) for next academic session will be held on 27th April 2008 at various centres across the country. The Ministry of Human Resource Development has given the directives in this regard.

AIEEE is a national level entrance test for admission to Engineering, Architecture and Planning degree courses in different engineering colleges and institutes in the country. The exam is conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), and Department of Secondary & Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) in compliance with the directives of the Government of India (GOI).

The entrance test consists of two papers, the first part deals with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics for BE and BTech courses and second paper includes mathematics aptitude test, and drawing for B Architecture and B Planning.

Scheme of Examination
Entrance examination would consist of two papers i.e. 1st paper consisting of three parts of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics of equal weightage with objective type questions for BE/B.Tech courses and 2nd paper – consisting of Mathematics,Aptitude Test and Drawing for B. Architecture and B. Planning. The Aptitude Test is designed to evaluate candidate’s perception, imagination, observation, creativity and architectural awareness.

Scoring and Negative Marking
There will be objective type questions with four options having single correct answer. For each incorrect response one third of the total marks allotted to the question would be deducted. No deduction from the total score will, however, be made if no response is indicated for an item in the answer sheet. The candidates are advised not to attempt such item in the answer sheet if they are not sure of the correct response. More than one answer indicated against a question will be deemed as incorrect response and will be negatively marked. All objective type questions are required to be answered on specially designed machine gradable answer sheets. Answers are to be marked using ball point pen (black/blue) only. For the purpose of evaluation, Test Booklet Code as printed in the Answer Sheet on Side-2 will be accepted as final.

For those unable to appear in AIEEE on scheduled date of examination for any reason, including loss of application form/admit card in transit, no re-examination shall be held under any circumstances. The schedule will remain unaltered even if the date is declared as a public holiday.

Syllabus
The question papers for the Examination shall be based on a common minimum syllabus drawn from syllabi taught in different State Boards. This is given at Appendix III.

Language of the Question Papers
Candidates can opt for question papers either in English or in Hindi. The option has to be exercised while filling Application Form. It cannot be changed later.

Eligibility Criteria : Candidates are, however, required to appear in the papers as per Scheme of Examination for AIEEE specified in para 2.4 of this Bulletin.

Examination Centres Cities
List of cities where the examination will be conducted is given in Appendix VI. Candidates are required to give three options convenient to them. While every effort will be made to allot a Centre in one of the places opted by the candidate, the Board reserves its discretion to allot a Centre other than that of candidate’s choice any where in India. Under no circumstances, the Centre once allotted shall be changed by the Board.

Admit Card
The Admit Card will be sent by post to the candidates (including those who made application online) about four weeks before the conduct of the examination. Candidates must not mutilate the Admit Card or change any entry made therein. In case the Admit Card is not received by 10th April' 2008, Such request be sent to Assistant Secretary (AIEEE), Central Board of Secondary Education, PS 1-2 Institutional Area, IP Extension,Patparganj Delhi-110092 with two photographs (as pasted on the Application Form), one should be attested by Principal of the institution where candidate is studying/passed XII or by the gazetted officer. Photocopy of the Application Form, proof regarding remittance of fee (photocopy of the Demand Draft) in respect of those candidates who have made application online, and the original postal receipt issued by the Post Office for having dispatched the Application Form by Registered/Speed Post in order to get a duplicate Admit Card. Such request for issue of duplicate admit card should accompany with the Demand Draft in favour of Secretary,CBSE payable at New Delhi amounting Rs.50/- as fee and additional Rs.30/- as postal charges for outstation candidates.Request for the issue of admit card after the examination will not be entertained.
In no case the duplicate Admit Card would be issued at the Examination Centres.

Rules For Rechecking/Re-Evaluation of Answer Sheets
Since the AIEEE answer sheets are machine graded with extreme care and repeatedly scrutinized, there is no provision for rechecking/re-evaluation of answer sheets. No correspondence in this regard will be entertained.

Counselling, Seat Allocation, Document Verification and Admissions
Final list of institutions admitting students (with intake in each discipline and category as per reservation) through AIEEE-2008, including counselling procedure, counselling schedule and counselling centres would be contained in the Information Brochure for Counselling and it shall also be released on AIEEE website in May 2008.

The Central Counselling Board shall send by post the Information Brochure for Counselling only to the candidates to be called for counselling.

Verification of documents would be done at the time of counselling/admission. The purpose would be to verify different records regarding identification, age, qualifying examination, state of eligibility and category of the candidate. On failing to establish of any of the documents, the candidates will not be considered for admission.

SC, ST and PH candidates will be required to produce original certificate issued by the competent authority at the time of counselling, failing which they will not be considered for admission.

All correspondence regarding counselling and refund of the amount paid to the Central Counselling Board (CCB) or any of the participating institution should be made with the concerned authorities.

Legal Jurisdiction
All disputes pertaining to the conduct of AIEEE shall fall within the jurisdiction of Delhi only. The Secretary of the Board shall be the legal person in whose name the Board may sue or may be sued.

AIEEE 2007 Paper

Today AIEEE paper was held all across the country and had a duration of 3 hours.The paper was easier compared to last year.This was mainly due to the fact that this year pattern had been changed compared to last year.

The new AIEEE pattern this year sported 120 questions distributed equally among Physics,Chemistry and Mathematics ie. each subject had 40 questions and each question carried 3 marks.Last year there was non-uniform marking with marks of each question ranging from 1.5 marks to 4.5 marks and also there were 150 questions in all..

The uniform marking proved a boon to the students as the difficulty level of all the questions was more or less the same hence each question took same time to be solved.The reduced number of questions meant that one could attempt all questions in the allotted 3 hours.

Coming to the question that must be hovering all your minds:What will be the cut-off for AIEEE this year?According to me and also a few on my friends did a few calculations and have come to the conclusion that a student getting approx 185 marks would get a Rank of 10,000.The cut-off for 30,000 rank is expected to be somewhere around 135 marks

Scoring and Negative Marking of AIEEE 2008

There will be objective type questions with four options having single correct answer. For each incorrect response one third of the total marks allotted to the question would be deducted. No deduction from the total score will, however, be made if no response is indicated for an item in the answer sheet. The candidates are advised not to attempt such item in the answer sheet if they are not sure of the correct response. More than one answer indicated against a question will be deemed as incorrect response and will be negatively marked. All objective type questions are required to be answered on specially designed machine gradable answer sheets. Answers are to be marked using ball point pen (black/blue) only. For the purpose of evaluation, Test Booklet Code as printed in the Answer Sheet on Side-2 will be accepted as final.

In compliance of the directive of the Govt. of India, Deptt. of Secondary and Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, the CBSE will conducting the Seventh All India Engineering/ Architecture Entrance Examination (AIEEE) for admission to degree level courses in Engineering and Architecture in National Institutes of Technology, Indian Institutes of Information Technology, Deemed Universities and Institutions in the Centre/ States/ UTs other than those covered by Joint Entrance Examination/State Level Entrance Examination for paid or unpaid seats based on the score. Tentative list of participating institutions will be contained in the Information Bulletin for AIEEE 2008.

This year many other institutions are expected to admit students through AIEEE. A tentative list of institutions and States/UTs likely to admit students on the basis of AIEEE-2008 is given in Appendix-I. Final list of institutions admitting students through AIEEE-2008 would be contained in the Information Brochure for Counselling and released on AIEEE website in due course. 1. Candidates can apply for AIEEE 2008 either on the prescribed Application Form or make application ‘Online’.

2. For submission of application on prescribed form :
Information Bulletin containing Application Form can be had by post from the CBSE or personally from Regional Offices of CBSE, Designated Institutions and the Designated Branches of Syndicate Bank and other Banks specified in Appendix IV.

Candidates must follow instructions strictly as given in the Information Bulletin. Candidates not complying with the instructions shall be summarily disqualified.

Candidates must keep a photocopy of the Application Form for use as reference for future correspondence.

Please ensure before mailing the application that:-
the candidate has signed the Form at two specified places;
the application bears signature of the Father/Guardian
recent passport size two photographs taken on or after 1st September, 2007 one pasted in the space marked for it (one duly attested by the Principal/Head of institution where the candidate is studying in class XII/Passed XII or by Gazetted officer)

Candidates submitting applications online are required:
to mention his/her Registration No., Name and Address on the back of the Pay Order/Demand Draft

to retain a photocopy of computer printed Form to serve as reference for future correspondence, and

to retain a photo copy of the Bank Draft sent.

4. Information regarding receipt of applications in the AIEEE Unit of the CBSE will be put on the website www.aieee.nic.in. The candidates can check the receipt of their Application Number on the website after 45 days of dispatch of Application to the CBSE. Candidates whose particulars do not appear on the website may write to the AIEEE Unit, and forward a photocopy of the Application Form, the Demand Draft and two passport size photographs (as pasted on the Application Form).

5. In case the Admit Card is not received by 10th April' 2008, the candidates should write/contact the CBSE between 11th April' 2008 to 21st April' 2008 giving details of the Post Office, date of dispatch, original receipt of postal dispatch, photostat copy of the Application Form, two photographs (as pasted on the Application Form one is duly attested as mentioned in para 2 above), and proof regarding remittance of fee who have submitted application “Online''

6. Candidate must preserve the Admit Card till the admission process is over. Request for issue of duplicate Admit Card will not be entertained after the examination.

The Admit Card will be sent by post to the candidates (including those who made application online) about four weeks before the conduct of the examination. Candidates must not mutilate the Admit Card or change any entry made therein. In case the Admit Card is not received by 10th April' 2008, Such request be sent to Assistant Secretary (AIEEE), Central Board of Secondary Education, PS 1-2 Institutional Area, IP Extension,Patparganj Delhi-110092 with two photographs (as pasted on the Application Form), one should be attested by Principal of the institution where candidate is studying/passed XII or by the gazetted officer. Photocopy of the Application Form, proof regarding remittance of fee (photocopy of the Demand Draft) in respect of those candidates who have made application online, and the original postal receipt issued by the Post Office for having dispatched the Application Form by Registered/Speed Post in order to get a duplicate Admit Card. Such request for issue of duplicate admit card should accompany with the Demand Draft in favour of Secretary,CBSE payable at New Delhi amounting Rs.50/- as fee and additional Rs.30/- as postal charges for outstation candidates.Request for the issue of admit card after the examination will not be entertained.

All-India Engineering/Pharmacy/Architecture Entrance Examination (AIEEE) is conducted by CBSE, Department of Secondary and Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development in compliance with the directives of the Government of India, for admission to degree level courses in Engineering, Pharmacy and Architecture in Central Universities, National Institutes of Technology, Deemed Universities and Institutions in the States/UTs other than those covered by Joint Entrance Examination/State Level Entrance Examination for paid or unpaid seats based on the score.

Eligibility:

The minimum academic qualification for admission through AIEEE is a pass in the final examination of 10+2 (Class XII) or its equivalent referred to as the qualifying examination (see Appendix –VIII). Those appearing in 10+2 (Class XII) final or equivalent examination may also appear in AIEEE for consideration of provisional admission.

Subject combinations required in the qualifying examination for admission to B.E./B.Tech. and B. Arch./B. Planning Courses shall be as under:

B.E/B.TECH -
Compulsory - Physics & Mathematics

Anyone of the Optional Subjects - Chemistry, Bio-technology, Computer Science, Biology

B.ARCH/B. PLANNING
Mathematics with 50% marks in aggregate at 10+2 level

The number of attempts which the candidate can avail at All India Engineering/Architecture Entrance Examination shall be limited to 03(three) uniformly for all the candidates in consecutive years.

One Time Exemption : candidate who have already availed three attempts or more will be permitted to appear in All India Engineering/Architecture Examination 2008 as a last chance.

LIST OF QUALIFYING EXAMINATIONS

i) The +2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, and Council for Indian School Certificate Examination, New Delhi.

ii) Intermediate or two-year Pre-University Examination conducted by a recognized Board/University.

iii) Final Examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.

iv) Any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system.

v) H.S.C. Vocational Examination.

vi) A pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects.

vii) 3 or 4-year diploma recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education.

Unit 1: The Living World
Nature and scope of Biology, Methods of Biology. Our place in the universe. Laws that govern the universe and life levels of organization. Causes and effect relationship. Being alive—what it means? Present approach to understand life processes—molecular approach; life as an expression of energy; steady state and homeostasis; self duplication and survival, adaptation; death as a positive part of life. Origin of life and its maintenance. Origin and diversity of life. Physical and chemcial principles that maintain life process, the living crust and interdependence. The positive and negative aspects of progress in biological sciences. The future of the living world, identification of human responsibility in shaping our future.

Unit 2: Unity of Life
Cell as unit of life. Small biomolecules; water, minerals, mono-and oligosaccharides, lipids, amino acids, nucleotides and their chemistry, cellular location and function. Macromolecules in cells their chemistry, cellular location and functional significance. Polysaccharides, proteins and nucleic acids. Enzymes; chemical nature, classification, mechanism in action-enzyme complex, allosteric modulation (brief), irreversible activation. Biomembranes. Fluid mosaic model of membrane in transport and recognition of external information (brief). Structural organisation of the cell; light and electron microscopic views of cell, its organelles and their functions; Nucleus, mitochondria, chloroplasts, endoplasmic reticulum. Golgi complex, Lysosomes, microtubules, cell wall, cilia and flagella, vacuoles, cell inclusions. A general account of cellular respiration. Fermentation, biological oxidation, mitochondrial electron transport chain, high energy bonds and oxidative phosphorylation, cell reproduction; Process of mitosis and meiosis.

Unit 3: Diversity of Life
Introduction. The enormous variety of living things, the need for classification to cope with this variety; taxonomy and phylogeny; shortcoming of a two kingdom classification as plants and animals; a five kingdom classification. Monera, Protista, Plantae, Fungi and Animalia. The basic features of five kingdom classification; modes of obtaining nutrition—autotrophs and heterotrophs. Life styles: producers, consumers and decomposers, Unicellularity and multicellularity, phylogenetic relationships. Concepts of species, taxon and categories-hierachical levels of classification; binomial nomenlature; principles of classification and nomenclature; identification and nature of viruses and bacteriophages and organisms. Kingdom Monera—archaebacteria-life in extreme environments; Bacteria, actinomycetes, Cyanobacteria. Example to illustrate autotrophic and heterotrophic life style; mineralizer-nitrogen fixers; Monera in cycling matter; symbiotic forms; disease producers. Kingdom Protista-Eucarytoic unicellular organisms; development of flagelea and cilia; beginning of mitosis; syngamy and sex. Various life styles shown in the major phyla. Evolutionary precursors of complex life forms. Diatoms, dinoflagellates, slime moulds, protozen, symbiotic forms. Plant kingdom—complex autotrophs, red, brown and green algae; conquest of land, bryophytes, ferns, gymnosperms and angiosperms Vascularization; development of flower, fruit and seed. Unit 4: Organism and Environment
Species: Origin and concpet of species, population; interaction between environment and populations; community. Biotic community, interaction between different species, biotic stability, changes in the community-succession. Ecosystem; Interaction between biotic and abiotic components; major ecosystems; manmade ecosystem—Agroecosystem. Biosphere; flow of energy, trapping of solar energy, energy pathway, food chain, food web, biogeochemical cycles, calcium and sulphur, ecological imbalance and its consequences. Conservation of natural resources; renewable and non-renewable (in brief). Water and land management, wasteland development. Wild life and forest conservation; causes for the extinction of some wild life, steps taken to conserve the remaining species, concept of endangered species—Indian examples, conservation of forest; Indian forests, importance of forests, hazards of deforestation, afforestation. Environmental pollution, air and water pollution, sources, major pollutants of big cities of our country, their effects and methods of control, pollution due to nuclear fallout and waste disposal, effect and control, noise pollution—sources and effects.

Unit 5: Multicellularity : Structure and Function—Plant Life
Form and function. Tissue system in flowering plants; meristematic and permanent. Minerals nutrition—essential elements, major functions of different elements, passive and active uptake of minerals, Modes of nutrition, transport of solutes water in plants, and photosynthesis photo chemical biosynthetic phases, diversity in photosynthetic path ways; Photosynthetic electron transport and photophosphoryliation, photorespriation. Transpiration and exchange of gases. Stomatal mechanism. Osmergualation in plants; water relations in plant cells, water potential, Reproduction and development in Angiosperm plants; asexual and sexual. Structure and functions of flower; development of male and female gametophytes in angiosperms, pollination, fertilization and development of endosperm, embryo, seed and fruit. Differentiation and organ formation. Plant hormones and growth regulation; action of plant hormones in relation to seed dormancy and germination, apical dominance. senescence and abscission. Applications of synthetic growth regulators. A brief account of growth and movement in plants.

Unit 6: Multicelluarity: Structure and Function—Animal Life
Animal tissues, epithelial, connective, muscular, nerve. Animal nutrition; organs of digestion and digestive process, nutritional requirements for carbohydrates, proteins, fats, minerals and vitamins:nutritional imbalances and deficiency diseases. Gas exchange and transport : Pulmonary gas exchange and organs involved, transport of gases in blood, gas exchange in aqueous media. Circulation:closed and open vascular systems, structure and pumping action of heart, arterial blood pressure, lymph. Excretion and osmoregulation. Ammonotelism, Ureotelism, uricotelism, excretion of water and urea with special reference to man. Role of kidney in regulation of plasma, osmolarity of mammals, role of hormones as messengers and regulators. Nervous coordination: central, autonomic and peripheral nervous systems, receptors, effectors, reflex action, basic physiology of special senses, integrative control by neuroendocirnal sytems. Locomotion, joints, muscle movements, types of skeletal muscles according to types of movement, basic aspects of human skeleton. Reproduction; human reproduction, female reproductive cycles. Embrynoic development in mammals (upto three germ layers).

Unit 7: Continuity of Life
Heredity and variation: Introduction, Mendel's experiments with peas and idea of factors. Mendel's laws of inheritance. Genes:Packaging of heredity material in prokaryotes—bacterial chromosome; plasmid and eukaryote chromosomes. Extranuclear genes, viral genes, linkage (genetic) maps. Sex determination and sex linkage. Genetic material and its replication. Gene expression; genetic code, transcription, translation, gene regulation, Molecular basis of differentiation.

Unit 8: Origin and Evolution of Life
Origin of life: Living and non-living, chemical evolution, organic evolution; Oparin ideas, Miller-Urey experiments. Intererlationship among living organisms and evidence of evolution:fossil records including geological time scale, Morphological evidence—homology, vestigial organs, embryological similarities and biogeographical evidence. Darwin 's two major contributions. Common origin of living organisms and recombination as sources of variability, selection acts upon variation, adapation (Ledergerg's replica plating experiment for indirect selection of bacterial mutants), reproductive isolation, specication. Role of selection change and drift in determining compositon of population. Selected examples : industrial melanism; drug resistance, mimicry, malaria in realtion to G-6-PD deficiency and sickle cell disease. Mutation-Their role in speciation. Their orign in speciation, their origin in organisms.

Unit 9: Application of Biology
Biofertilisers—green manure, crop residues and nitrogen fixation (symbiotic, non-symbiotic). Applications of tissue culture and genetic engineering in crops. Domestication and introduction of animals. Livestock, poultry, fisheries (fresh water, marine, acqaculture). Improvement of animals; principles of animal breeding. Major animal diseases and their control. Insects and their products (silk, honey, wax and lac). Bioenergy, biomass, wood (combustion, gasification, ethanol). Cow dung-cakes, gobar gas plants as sources of hydrocarbons for producing petroleum, ethanol from starch and lignocellulose. Chemistry
Unit 1: Some Basic concepts
Measurement in chemistry (Precision, significant figures, SI units, Dimensional analysis). Laws of chemical combination. Atomic Mass, Molecular Mass, mole concept, Molar Mass, determination of Molecular formula. Chemical equation, stoichiometry of Chemical reactions.

Unit 2: States of Matter
Gaseous state, measurable properties of gases, Boyle's Law, Charle's Law and absolute scale of temperature, Avogadro's hypothesis, ideal gas equation, Dalton's law of partial pressures.

Kinetic molecular theory of gases (the microscopic model of gas), deviation form ideal behaviour.

The solid state (classification of solids, X-ray studies of crystal lattices and unit cells, packing of constituent particles in crystals). Imperfection in solids, electrical, magnetic and dielectic properties of solids. Liquid state (Properties of liquids, Vapour pressure, Surface tension, Viscosity).

Unit 3: Atomic Structure
Constituents of the atom (discovery of electron, rutherford model of the atom).

Electronic structure of atoms – nature of light and electromagnetic waves, atomic spectra, bohr's model of hydrogen, shortcomings of the bohr model

Dual nature of matter and radiation. de-Broglie relation. The uncertainty principle, Quantum Mechanical Model of the atom, Orbitals and Quantum numbers. Shapes of orbitals. Aufbau principle, Pauli Exclusion Principle, Hund's Rule, Electronic Configuration of atoms.

Unit 4: Solutions
Types of solutions, Units of concentration, Vapour-pressure of solutions and Raoult's law. Colligative properties. Determination of molecular mass. Non-ideal solutions and abnormal molecular masses. Volumetric analysis-concentration unit.

Unit 5: Chemical Energetics and Thermodynamics
Energy changes during a chemical reaction, Internal energy and Enthalpy, Internal energy and Enthalpy changes, Origin of Enthalpy change in a reaction, Hess's Law of constant heat summation, numericals based on these concepts. Enthalpies of reactions(Enthalpy of neutralization, Enthalpy of combustion, Enthalpy of fusion and vaporization).

Sources of energy (conservation of energy sources and identification of alternative sources, pollution associated with consumption of fuels. The sun as the primary source).

First law of thermodynamics; Relation between Internal energy and Enthalpy, application of first law of thermodynamics.

Second law of thermodynamics : Entropy, Gibbs energy, Spontaneity of a chemical reaction, Gibbs energy change and chemical equilibrium, Gibbs energy available for useful work.

Unit 6: Chemical Equilibrium
Equilibria involving physical changes (solid-liquid, liquid-gas equilibrium involving dissolution of solids in liquids, gases in liquids, general characteristics of equilibrium involving physical processes).

Equilibria involving chemical systems (the law of chemical equilibrium, the magnitude of the equilibrium constant, numerical problems).

Effect of changing conditions of systems at equilibrium (change of concentration, change of temperature, effect of catalyst-Le Chateliar's principle).

Equilibria involving ions -- ionization of electrolytes, weak and strong electrolytes, acid-base equilibrium, various concepts of acids and bases, ionization of water, pH scale, solubility product, numericals based on these concepts.

Unit 7: Redox Reactions and Electrochemistry
Oxidation and reduction as an electron transfer concept. Redox reactions in aqueous solutions-electrochemical cells. EMF of a galvanic cell. Dependence of EMF on concentration and temperature (NERNST equation and numerical problems based on it). Electrolysis, Oxidation number (rules for assigning oxidation number, redox reactions in terms of oxidation number, nomenclature). Balancing of oxidation-reduction equations.

The minimum academic qualification for admission through AIEEE is a pass in the final examination of 10+2 (Class XII) or its equivalent referred to as the qualifying examination. Entrance examination would consist of three papers with objective type questions and fourth paper – Aptitude Test for Architecture and Planning. The Aptitude Test is designed to evaluate candidate's perception, imagination, observation, creativity and architectural awareness.

Scoring and Negative Marking
All objective type questions (four options with single correct answer) would carry three marks. For each correct response, candidate will get three marks. For each incorrect response one mark would be deducted. No deduction from the total score will, however, be made if no response is indicated for an item in the answer sheet. The candidates are advised not to attempt such item in the answer sheet if they are not sure of the correct response. More than one answer indicated against a question will be deemed as incorrect response and will be negatively marked. AIEEE is the most prestigious engineering entrance examination and the students willing to make it to the top notch engineering colleges through AIEEE have to realize that they need to have the right kind of orientation. In AIEEE the emphasis is on fundamental concepts and their application in different situations. This differs significantly from the Board examinations. The questions asked in the AIEEE seek to test the conceptual clarity and the reasoning ability of the students.

Most of the questions in AIEEE are not difficult but they are just different & they require a different approach, a different mindset. Each question has an element of surprise in it & student who is adept in tackling ‘surprise questions’ is most likely to sail through.

In this booklet we have tried to briefly answer questions of students preparing for AIEEE. This information will help you establish new goals, develop a new sense of purpose and generate new ideas that will be helpful in your preparation.

Few strategies of Smart Preparation
• Well thought revision plan,

The first & foremost step is to build a sound & feasible plan for your preparation.

Divide your entire time into a reasonable time chart with milestones in between & plan your studies
accordingly. Do not overestimate the time you have. You are advised to leave free time in between so that if any module gets delayed you don’t have to change the plan.

Study the trend of previous year question papers & draw marks distribution of each subject to find out which topics are most important & which are least. Give priority to important topics & try to put them in early stage of your preparation to avoid any possibility of them being left.

Review your plan periodically to find out if there are any lapses & how they can be covered up.

To summarize PAGE counselors believe that most of the student’s fail not because of lack of ability or intelligence but because of lack of desire, direction, proper planning & discipline.

• Strengthening fundamentals:

Most of the questions are based on fundamentals & their applications. So, the first step is to establish a solid base by mastering the fundamentals. For mastering the fundamentals you have to be focused. Don’t refer too many books. Decide about the books after discussing with your trainer at PAGE then stick to them.

When you start a new chapter, the learning curve is slow that you do not accomplish similar amount of learning every day even though you spend same amount of time everyday. So even if your learning process is slow, keep studying day after day without getting discouraged. All the subjects are equally important. Devote more time to subject/topic you are weak in (remember most of us tend to devote more time on areas we are strong & often shy away from our weakness). In most of the examinations minimum qualifying marks are there for each subject. Hence make sure that you do not ignore any subject & allocate adequate time to each subject

• Strengthening Application of fundamentals

Quality is more important than Quantity: Doing 100 quality & concepts based questions is more important than doing 1000 questions which have not been selected carefully. Remember that the purpose is to sharpen problem-solving skills. Start with conventional methods of problem solving but improvise constantly & build you own shortcuts & ways of attacking a problem.

While practicing the problem always try to solve the problem on your own. If you are unable to solve a problem do not hurry to consult the solution. Study the relevant theory again, paying attention to the finer points and the problem in the back of mind.

Experience shows that studying the theory with a definite problem in mind is very effective and also sharpens the problem solving skills. Remember that directly going though the solutions is not going to help you at all. The key in problem solving does not lie in understanding the solution to the problem but to find out what clues in the problem leads you to the right explanation. In case you are not able to solve the problem try to find out the reason by analyzing the level of problem & practice similar kind of problems so that you can master the tricks involved.

While doing problem solving try to strengthen and develop your conceptual understanding by analyzing deeply and correlating the problem with real life situations.
While practicing identify your strong & weak areas (subject wise/topic wise/question wise). Testing your preparation chapter by chapter can do this. Through a structured test you should be able to diagnose which chapter, which concept & what type of problems you need to practice more.

• Strengthening Speed /Strike rate & Examination temperament

Always keep track of your average speed of solving questions.
Participating in PAGE identical test series helps in time & temperament management during the final exams. It has been observed that most of the students loose 15 to 20% of their marks not because they do not know the subject but because they fail to apply the basic concepts correctly. This is basically due to examination fear & pressure. These marks that a student looses because of silly mistakes (calculation errors, confusion, fail to apply the right concepts, solving the problem by long method) can be reduced if a student regularly participates in test series based on the pattern & level of final exams.

The student can also simulate the exam like conditions through PAGE training program.

Get a feedback on your preparation by getting yourself tested by a body other than your College. Testing by PAGE would give you an independent and unbiased feedback about your performance. It is preferable if these tests give feedback on National level.
Please remember that both speed & strike rate are important for success. Continuously develop the ability to do things fast & accurately.
Keep interacting with people who are preparing. Since the competition is on National level it is important to compare your preparation with other students preparing across the country.
In short we can say that “AIEEE is not necessarily test of knowledge of basic fundamentals only but it is a test of application of knowledge to solve surprise problems with perfect time & temperament
management.

Speed: Speed building comes through the following:
Memorizing land mark problems (remembering standard formulae, concepts so that you can apply them directly) Being strong in mental calculations (never use the calculator during your entire preparation, try to do first and second level of calculations mentally, remember as vocalization reduces reading speed, similarly doing calculation on paper reduces the speed. Working with choices (see all the options and do not go for last digit accuracy unless required by the problem) when you are doing subject wise exercises you can also calculate speed subject wise.
Here we would like to highlight one more point that just good speed is not enough because of negative marks, so a high speed with less accuracy may be harmful.

Strike Rate: This originates the second important factor, the strike rate. Strike rate means the percentage of correctly attempted questions

Strike rate can be improved with the help of intelligent guessing. Intelligent guessing means guessing a question you are not completely sure but have some idea about. Your objective is not to solve the question but choosing the correct option out of the 4 given choices. So always try to eliminate the choices. Remember that if one choice is eliminated, chances of your guess being right is 33% (in comparison to a blind guess where the chances of being right is 25%) and if two are eliminated the chances of hitting the right answer are 50 %

So remember that a good speed or strike rate alone cannot give you success. One without the other is a good way to mess up a potentially good performance. So, what is required is a good
combination of both speed and strike rate.

Question Selection: It is very important to understand what you have to attempt and what you have to leave. There is a limit to which you can improve your speed and strike rate beyond which what becomes very important is your selection of question. So success depends upon how judiciously one is able to select the questions. To optimize your performance you should quickly scan for easy question and come back to the difficult ones later.

Always keep in mind that normally questions in any competitive exams can be categorized into 3 areas

Easy: Approximately 25% questions in a paper are easy
Average: Approximately 60% questions in a paper are average
Difficult: Approximately 15% questions in a paper are difficult

The easy and average questions ensure selection whereas the difficult questions make the merit. You should focus on careful selection of the easy and average questions and avoid difficult questions in the first and second round and come back to them once you have completed the entire paper once.

Also remember that cut-off in most of the exams moves between 60 to 70%. So if you focus on easy and average question i.e. 85% of the questions, you can easily score 70% marks without even going to difficult question. Try to ensure that in the initial 2 hours of the paper the focus should be clearly on easy and average question, after two hours you can decide whether you want to move to difficult questions or revise the ones attempted to ensure a high strike rate.

1. Candidates can apply for AIEEE 2007 either on the prescribed Application Form or make application ‘Online’.

2. For submission of application on prescribed form :
Information Bulletin containing Application Form can be had by post from the CBSE or personally from Regional Offices of CBSE, Designated Institutions and the Designated Branches of Syndicate Bank and other Banks specified in
Appendix IV.

Candidates must follow instructions strictly as given in the Information Bulletin. Candidates not complying with the instructions shall be summarily disqualified.

Candidates must keep a photocopy of the Application Form for use as reference for future correspondence.

Please ensure before mailing the application that:-
the candidate has signed the Form at two specified places;
the application bears signature of the Father/Guardian
recent passport size two photographs taken on or after 1st September, 2006 one pasted in the space marked for it (one duly attested by the Principal/Head of institution where the candidate is studying in class XII/Passed XII or by Gazetted officer)

the application is dispatched by Registered/Speed Post in the enclosed CBSE envelope;

Online submission of application with photograph and signature on Computer Printed Form generated and down loaded from the website www.aieee.nic.in and to be sent by Registered/Speed Post (NOT BY COURIER) to CBSE and payment made by Demand Draft in favour of the Secretary, CBSE, payable at Delhi.

Candidates submitting applications online are required:
to mention his/her Registration No., Name and Address on the back of the Pay Order/Demand Draft

to retain a photocopy of computer printed Form to serve as reference for future correspondence, and

to retain a photo copy of the Bank Draft sent.

4. Information regarding receipt of applications in the AIEEE Unit of the CBSE will be put on the website www.aieee.nic.in. The candidates can check the receipt of their Application Number on the website after 45 days of dispatch of Application to the CBSE. Candidates whose particulars do not appear on the website may write to the AIEEE Unit, and forward a photocopy of the Application Form, the Demand Draft and two passport size photographs (as pasted on the Application Form).

5. In case the Admit Card is not received by 10th April, 2007, the candidates should write/contact the CBSE between 11th April, 2007 to 20th April, 2007 giving details of the Post Office, date of dispatch, original receipt of postal dispatch, photostat copy of the Application Form, two photographs (as pasted on the Application Form one is duly attested as mentioned in para 2 above), and proof regarding remittance of fee who have submitted application “Online

In 2006, the minimum academic qualification for admission through AIEEE was a pass in the final examination of 10+2 (Class XII), or its equivalent, referred to as the qualifying examination. Those appearing in 10+2 (Class XII) final, or equivalent, examination with results not declared could also appear in counseling. Such candidates were admitted provisionally, subject to the submission of proof of passing in qualifying examination latest by September 15, 2006 at the allotted institution. In case they could not comply with this deadline for providing the proof of passing in the qualifying examination, their admission will stand cancelled.

AIEEE is a engineering entrance examination and the students willing to make it to the top notch engineering colleges in indianite is an All India Common Entrance Examination for Admission to undergraduate degree Programs in the field of Engineering, Technology, Pharmacy and Architecture in various colleges in India. The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India had taken a policy decision to conduct an All India Engineering Entrance Examination in 2002 (AIEEE-2002) with a view to minimize the difficulties being experienced by the candidates and their guardians arising due to a large number of entrance examinations being conducted for admission to undergraduate degree programme in the areas referred above. It is normally conducted in the month of May every year.

AIEEETop Rankers are called for counseling for admission to 19 National Institute of Technology (NIT's). All candidates are eligible either for central counseling or state-specific or category-specific counseling on basis of their All India Ranking (AIR). Counseling for SC/ST candidates and SC/ST physically handicapped candidates is done on the first two days of counseling. Then the physically handicapped in the Open (OP) category are counseled. Candidates are ranked on an All India basis and also according to their state. Thus, they have an All India Rank (AIR) and a state rank. A central analysis structure is offered for filling up the accessible seats all over India.
